Upgraded Party Weight

Postby Old Dave » Fri Mar 31, 2006 11:32 am

Dennis,

I was told it is about 160-165 pounds.

Are you thinking about getting one?

Dave, Dennis

I'm thinking about getting one.
What is the butterfly valve? is it the top vent?

Would casters be helpful on this unit?

Do I have to go through a dealer, I'm about 260 miles from the closest one.

Thanks,

Darrell

Upgraded Party

Postby Old Dave » Fri Mar 31, 2006 12:54 pm

Darrell,

I assume that the butterfly valve is the valve in the top vent in the cooker with the upgraded chimney.

Casters is an option that is up to you. I do not think they are needed on the lighter weight cookers but I sure like them on my Competitor.

No, you don't have to go thru a dealer but purchasing from the factory will cost you full retail. You may be able to make a better deal thru one of the dealers. If it was me, I think I would call around to see if I could save a buck or two. Any dealer can have the cooker delivered to your door. Sometimes, if a dealer has cookers coming his way, you may also be able to save a little on shipping. Worth a try.

Casters are a must

Postby woodsforums » Fri Mar 31, 2006 2:39 pm

Hey there,

I have the party unit, and I sure do wish I had casters, it is not heavy, but with the dolly I have been using, even with padding I have scratched the back panel up. The butterfly valve is the top "chimney" on the top if the unit like you see on a competitor or a fatboy.

As far as going throug a dealer or straight from Mike, either way really you are going to probably have to ship the unit, unless you want to make a small drive. I myself drove the 611 miles to Louisiana and was really glad I did, I got to see the Backwoods shop up close and personal.

As far as pricing, Dealers may have room to make some deals, either way they are great to talk with to see how they can help you. Where are you located anyways?

hi Dave and woodsforum

Thanks for the information
I'm in Delaware OH

Seeing as this will probably be my last smoker that I buy I just may go for the castors.

Do you put the Guru probes through the chimney?

Hope to get down to Nelsonville this fall and see you Dave

Party

Postby Old Dave » Fri Mar 31, 2006 3:22 pm

Darrell,

The Guru wires just go thru the front door of the cooker. Closing the door on the wires won't hurt them.

Be looking forward to meeting you as well at Nelsonville.

Guru

Yeah what Ole Dave said, you put the pit probe on the bottom of the grate that you are cooking on, then the meant probe in the meat of course, then just run the wires out to the side of the door and close it, it works great.

I've been doing that with my meat probes. I've been using two at the same time, lately, one for the butt and one for the brisket. The doors still shut okay, but too much steam from the water pan is getting out around the wires and bubbling the paint in that area. Anyone else having this problem?

I had that problem with my party

Postby woodsforums » Mon Apr 03, 2006 9:45 pm

I had that problem with my party, we had an older model and the paint that was used WAS succeptable to bubbling, on the newer models, the paint has been changed to take care of this.

As far as your model, if you DO have a butterfly valve, maybe you COULD put it down there, I am not sure what kind of heat we are talking right there, but it probably is not the best place.

Hey DD, sorry to jack your thread...

Anybody know what type of paint to buy and from where to do touch-ups that would be more steam resistant. After talking to Mike on the phone, I'm figuring out that my Party must have been in the showroom quite a while. Evidently, He's changed a few things on the new ones. :(
