Backwoods Smoker vs Big Green Egg

Postby Tommy G » Wed Mar 28, 2012 3:30 pm

This is my first post. I'am seriously considering the purchase of a bsw party. I have been using a BIg Green Egg for the last several years with very good results. What can I expect the big differences to be between the two grills? Thanks for your replys.

I've never cooked on Big Green Egg. Bought me a Party 5 weeks ago and love it! I've cooked on my BWS every weekend for the pass 5 weeks now. Smoked a ham and a Boston Butt today. The Party is so easy to use and everything I've smoked on it has been great! My wife has been giving out samples and now I have my first orders for hams for Easter. You can't go wrong buying a Backwoods Smoker.

I do a lot of overnight cooks with my green egg, I set the BBQ guru and forget about it till morning. How long can I cook on the bws party without having to add water or adding charcoal?

I have been around both a green egg and the BWS for many years. The main difference in the 2 smokers is the quantity of meat you can cook in a party compared to a green egg. I can do 18 racks of baby backs at a time in my party when my buddy struggles to do 6 in the same amount of time. Both are great smokers but the BWS is easier if you have to add fuel. The Egg and the party can both cook extremely hot for grilling steaks or pizzas. I like the water feature in the BWS cause I feel I keep more moisture in the meat if I decide not to wrap. You can't go wrong with either smoker but the party does have some advantages. (Make sure you order with a heat diverter to get the 10 hours on the water.)

Thanks for the replys. If I decide to get a Backwoods smoker I have decided on the Party, with a heat diverter, commercial firebox, for longer burns and easier refueling, as well as casters. I am a little confused where I can order a new bws party and get it delivered to Northwest Indiana, near Chicago. ANy suggestions would be appreciated.

You can order it thru any dealer and have it drop shipped to your door. You can order it thru the factory as well. Probably save more money by ordering it thru a dealer as the factory won't cut the prices over the dealers. You have a couple of dealers in Illinois and also one in Michigan that are close.
