Commercial fire grate

Postby DirtyPigBBQ » Tue Nov 01, 2011 6:05 pm

Hi to all. I just purchased a Party and had a question about the fire grate. The one that came with the smoker has an expanded metal bottom with small legs. This sits in an ash pan that sets in the bottom of the cooker. Is this the commercial fire grate? I can't find much when i search the forum to verify. Would I be better off having some rails welded on the sides to raise the fire grate an inch or two and be able to slide it out? I will be using this for competitions mainly. Thanks for any help!

No that is not the commercial firegrate. The commercial firegrate has a fire box that slides out on rails, with the ash pan below it.

Look at this thread:

Scroll down to the pic of smoker. You will see what a commercial fire grate looks like.

Thanks Rick. That pic is exactly what I was looking for! So if I added some rails to the insides of my Party I should have something similar? Is the box bigger/taller?

Give Mike a call at Backwoods, I know he puts a commercial fire grate in the Party if someone asks for it. He could send you all the parts and you could have someone weld the rails in for you.
