My name is Peter and I just picked up a fatboy. Im up in the frozen tundra of minnesota, it will be interesting to see how well it smokes when its 10 below zero. I appreciate everyones willingness to answer questions on this and other forums. The BBQ community is a great bunch of people.

Toy,

You will love the fatboy for smoking in the cold. I don't know of another smoker that handles the extreme weather conditions like the BWS. The other night I put 55 lbs of beef on my party and started it when it was 3 degrees outside. It took a little bit of time and fuel to get things going (I used a full chimney of lit lump and added hot tap water to the water pan) but once it got to temp it just purred right along. Let us know how it goes for you.

I cooked for the first time yesterday, i think the temps where in the mid teens. Fat boy got to temp in less than thirty minutes, cooked ribs for seven hours. What an awesome experience, the guru made maintaining temperature a breeze and the ribs turned out perfect.

Welcome to all. Congrats on all the new pit owners. I am a newbie owner as well and find this place to be a nice "inside" to the Backwoods.
